Meet Rikki
Rikki Schaphorst is a licensed medical massage therapist based in Grand Haven, Michigan, specializing in Abdominal Therapy, medical massage, pregnancy and postpartum support, and functional bodywork.
Her approach is rooted in the understanding that every body carries a different story. With a background in yoga, movement, anatomy, and therapeutic massage, Rikki creates individualized treatment sessions that support the body’s natural ability to restore function, ease, and flow.
Through her training in Abdominal Therapy as taught by Dr. Rosita Arvigo and continued work within the Abdominal Therapy Collective, Rikki offers specialized care for clients navigating pregnancy, postpartum recovery, fertility journeys, digestive concerns, pelvic floor health, low back discomfort, and other conditions connected to the abdomen, pelvis, hips, and spine.
Rikki’s work is intentional, collaborative, and grounded in respect. Each session may include hands-on treatment, conscious breathing, movement awareness, and education to help clients better understand their bodies and continue supporting their healing at home.
At Flow Bodyworks, Rikki’s goal is not to offer a one-size-fits-all massage, but to create a safe, thoughtful space where clients feel heard, cared for, and empowered to move through life with a little more ease.
Why Abdominal therapy?
-
Abdominal Therapy is a specialized form of bodywork focused on the abdomen, low back, spine, hips, pelvis, sacrum, and tailbone.
This work supports the body’s journey toward homeostasis by encouraging flow through the nervous, arterial, venous, energetic, and lymphatic systems. Because the abdomen holds so many vital organs and connective structures, this area can influence digestion, pelvic function, reproductive health, low back comfort, breath, circulation, and overall well-being.
-
Abdominal Therapy may be beneficial for:
Pregnancy support and birth preparation
Postpartum recovery
Fertility journeys for one or both partners
Pelvic floor health
Incontinence
Painful menstrual cramps
Low back pain
Sciatic nerve discomfort
Digestive concerns
Inflammatory organ conditions, including IBD or Crohn’s
C-section scar support
Breath restriction or shallow breathing
Long periods of sitting
Intense physical activity, including running or cycling
General body maintenance and whole-body awareness
Abdominal Therapy can support women through many phases of life from first cycles, fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, menopause, and beyond. It may also support men, children, and seniors navigating digestive, pelvic, or low back concerns.
Please Note: This work is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment. It is a supportive bodywork practice within Rikki’s professional scope.
-
The abdomen is not separate from the rest of the body. The abdomen is a high-traffic center of the body. It connects to the spine, pelvis, breath, digestion, circulation, reproductive organs, lymphatic flow, and nervous system.
And yet, this area is often overlooked in day-to-day bodywork.
Abdominal Therapy brings focused attention to this powerful region with care, consent, and respect. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, this work looks at how the body’s systems communicate and how restoring movement, space, and circulation may support greater ease throughout the whole body.
Flow Bodyworks is built around a few simple but meaningful beliefs:
You are not a passive participant. Rikki offers education, home practice guidance, and tools to support your care beyond the table.
Your body has a story
Every person arrives with different experiences, histories, and needs.
Treatment is collaborative
This work is practiced with care, consent, lineage awareness, and reverence for the body’s wisdom.
Healing is not one-size-fits-all
Each session is shaped by what is present that day — physically, emotionally, and functionally.
